Meaning: What is your job(polite way)

意味：お仕事は何をされてるんですか？

What do you do for a living?

I’m a teacher.

Oh really? What do you teach?

I’m a math teacher at Harvard.

What do you do for a living?

お仕事は何をされてるんですか?

I’m a teacher.

教師をしています。

Oh really? What do you teach?

そうなんですか？何を教えているんですか?

I’m a math teacher at Harvard.

ハーバードで数学を教えています。

If you meet somebody for the first time, you are curious about  what the person does, what their job is?

You should not say "What is your job?"  That's not too nice.

When I meet somebody for the first time, I ask it. So you can, too.
